This offbeat "electric western," loosely based on Herman Hesse's novel "Siddhartha," combines a standard gunfight plot with '60s psychedelia. Cowboys Zachariah (John Rubinstein) and Matthew (Don Johnson) get mixed up with a group of outlaw rockers (Country Joe and the Fish) on their quest to become gunslingers. the adventure begins when zachariah (john rubinstein), who just received a mail order gun, convinces his friend matthew (don johnson) to ride off with him on the trail of the crackers (country joe & the fish), a roving band of bandits. at a saloon where the crackers are entertaining, a cowboy picks a fight with zachariah who outdraws and kills him. based on the success of this first showdown, zachariah decides that he is good gunfighter material. he and matthew then set out on a trail of gun-slinging adventures, including encounters with the infamous job cain (elvin jones) and his gang (the james gang).
