Reggie Lampert, un'americana che abita a Parigi, sta attendendo il divorzio dal marito quando apprende che egli è caduto da un treno ed è morto. Si tratta di suicidio, disgrazia o assassinio? Chiamata all'ambasciata americana, un certo Bartholomew le spiega che Lampert aveva 250.000 dollari, rubati durante la guerra, e che tre suoi complici lo stavano cercando per spartire la somma. Reggie si rivolge a Peter Joshuah, che aveva conosciuto in montagna, e questi promette di aiutarla; ben presto la donna, pur innamorandosi di lui, si accorge che Peter le racconta molte falsità. Intanto i tre complici del marito si fanno vivi e gli assassinii si susseguono, mentre tutti sono alla ricerca del denaro che nessuno sa dove sia andato a finire; finchè si scopre che era stato investito in francobolli preziosissimi. Dopo un drammatico inseguimento, Reggie li porta all'ambasciata americana e scopre con sorpresa che il vero Bartholomew è proprio Peter.

Der Film ist ein Vergnügen, spannend, schöne Musik gibts auch. !Uberraschungen bis zur letzten Einstellung, ein wahre Freude. Einziger Wermutstropfen: Das Frauenbild der Anfangs-sechziger... So naiv waren die wohl auch damals nicht!
Dafür gibts untertitel!

Der Film ist super, solche gibts nimmer heute. Dass es keine Extras hat akzeptiert man bei diesem Preis gerne, oder? Und DVDs sind dazu da sie in der Originalsprache zu geniessen sofern man lesen kann.
