Danzatrice talentuosa e con il sogno di arrivare a Broadway, India di giorno insegna danza e movimento a bambini muti in un centro riabilitativo mentre il sabato sera si esibisce in una discoteca di Brooklyn, dove compete con i più bravi artisti che suonano musica techno, jazz, funk e soul. Un giorno il caso vuole che ci sia un'audizione: India si presenta e viene scelta: il problema è che al momento di comunicare il suo nome, nonostante la sua bravura, la giovane viene scartata perché non parla. Infatti, è muta fin dalla nascita. Una sera, in discoteca, un giovane scienziato la conosce, viene a sapere la sua storia, ne rimane affascinato e decide che, forse può aiutarla. Costruisce per lei una macchina che la rende in grado di comunicare, di esprimere le sue emozioni, di amare.
